David Gray directs the New America Foundation’s Workforce and Family Program, which researches and develops solutions to social and family issues and builds common ground between people across ideological, political and theological boundaries. An attorney and ordained Presbyterian minister, David is the former acting assistant secretary for policy at the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), where he managed the offices of regulatory policy, programmatic policy, compliance assistance/technology, and economic analysis/research.

In that capacity, he advised the Secretary of Labor on a variety of policy issues, staffed a number of White House working groups, and represented the U.S. abroad in negotiations in Mexico and in Chile. He has also served as a Counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs and as a legislative aid to several members of Congress.

David speaks frequently about issues of faith and life, family well being, and workforce policy at events, on Capitol Hill and in the media. His writings have appeared in publications such as the Baltimore Sun, Christian Science Monitor, USAToday, U.S. News and World Report, and WashingtonPost.com.
