Jane Shannon

For most of her career, Jane served as the vice president in charge of Human Resources Communication at Citibank, New York, NY. She then worked as a senior communication consultant at Davis & Company in New Jersey and as a principal in the communication practice of William M. Mercer, Inc., in Boston. Jane is currently an independent consultant; her clients have included companies as diverse as Texaco, Barnes & Noble, Bank of America, Toys “R” Us, and United Distillers & Vintners.

Before joining Citibank, Jane was a copywriter at Univac (now Unisys), Blue Bell, PA; manager of editorial services at INA (now CIGNA), Philadelphia; and a freelance writer in Portland, OR. She earned a bachelor of journalism, major in advertising, at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she recently returned to teach as part of the Visiting Professor Program.

In March 2010, FT Pearson publishers released the book she co-authored with Alison Davis, CEO, Davis & Company. Titled The Definitive Guide to HR Communication: Engaging Employees in Benefits, Pay, and Performance, the book offers expert advice for HR and Communication professionals on the basics of good communication, and then the authors show you how to apply their advice to typical HR topics from recruiting through retirement.

Jane is a member and former board member of the Council of Communication Management, and a former member of the International Association of Business Communicators, where she earned local, regional, and international awards of excellence. Her work has also been recognized with awards from the American Institute for Graphic Arts, the New York Art Directors, the Philadelphia Art Directors, and has been featured in Graphis and Communication Arts.
